Rental
Cars:
Rental Cars are available from major rental
companies at the airports and cities. To rent a car, you must be at least
25 years of age, hold a valid driver's license, and a major credit card.
In order to get the lowest rates, and to ensure that a car is available,
we highly recommend that you reserve your vehicle and rate before leaving
home.
Gasoline:
Gasoline is only available in state run PEMEX gas stations throughout
Mexico. Gas is sold by the liter (3.78 liters = 1 gallon). Gasoline prices
vary, but in general are much higher than prices in Canada and the US. Many gas stations do not accept credit cards, and close by 10:00
pm. There is no self-service and it is not mandatory to tip the attendant,
however most people get out of their car to "monitor" the dispensing of
fuel.
Mexican Auto Insurance:
Mexican Auto Insurance is essential. Check with your insurance agent on
getting coverage.
